Dr. Nathaniel Roybal

Dr. Nathaniel Roybal, a native of Mora, New Mexico, is one of nine children born to schoolteacher parents. He pursued an Animal Sciences degree at New Mexico State University before shifting to medical studies. At UCLA, he engaged in post-doctoral research focusing on gene and stem cell therapies for ocular conditions. Furthering his specialization, he completed a fellowship at the University of Iowa, pioneering procedures for diagnosing and treating retinal diseases. As part of the inaugural class of the MD/PhD program at the University of New Mexico, Dr. Roybal emphasized the importance of translational medicine, aiming to bridge the gap between laboratory research and clinical application. In 2020, he established Retina Consultants of New Mexico in Albuquerque, with the mission of delivering world-class medical care to the state. Beyond his practice, Dr. Roybal is dedicated to legislative advocacy, striving to attract more medical professionals to New Mexico to ensure quality healthcare for its residents.
