Understanding Epiretinal Membranes
Epiretinal membranes, commonly known as macular puckers, are a frequently encountered eye condition, especially in older adults. They occur when a delicate, translucent layer of fibrous tissue forms on the surface of the retina – the part of the eye sensitive to light. This layer can contract, causing wrinkling or puckering in the macula. This can adversely affect the retinas function and cause visual disturbances.
