Experiencing ‘Floaters’ in your vision can be a common, yet sometimes alarming experience. As dedicated ophthalmologists, we are here to help you understand and manage this condition effectively.
Floaters are small, shadowy figures that can appear as dots, circles, lines, or cobwebs in your field of vision. They are actually tiny clumps of gel or cells inside the vitreous, the clear gel-like substance that fills the inside of your eye. Floaters are particularly noticeable when looking at a bright, plain background, like a blue sky or a white wall.
Floaters often occur as part of the natural aging process. As we age, the vitreous slowly shrinks
and can form clumps or strands. Other causes can include eye injuries, inflammation, or certain
eye diseases.
When you visit our clinic with concerns about floaters, we first ensure your eye health with a comprehensive dilated eye examination. We might use advanced imaging techniques, such as Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and fundus photography, to gather information on your eye’s condition.
In most cases, floaters are harmless and don’t require treatment. However, they can sometimes be indicative of more serious eye conditions, such as retinal tears or detachment. This is more likely if the floaters are numerous and accompanied flashes of light. If we detect any underlying issues, we will discuss appropriate treatment options with you, which may include laser therapy or surgery.
If you notice a sudden increase in floaters, especially if accompanied by flashes or changes in your vision, it’s important to contact us or an eye provider immediately. These could be signs of a retinal detachment, a serious condition that requires prompt attention.
At our clinic, we understand that your vision is vital, and we are committed to providing the highest quality care. We are here to support you through all your eye health needs and ensure that you have the best possible outcomes. Trust us to be your guide in maintaining healthy vision. We provide treatment for Floaters in Albuquerque.
